How to Wear a Blazer with Shorts

One of my favorite combinations for spring and summer is a pair of shorts and a blazer, but how to wear a blazer with shorts is another question. It’s the perfect look for cocktails, dinner with friends, a garden party or Sunday brunch, but to make it work, you’ll want to mix more structured and unstructured pieces.  Adding the blazer takes a super casual t-shirt and shorts, and dresses it up, but still has a laid back vibe. To keep the look consistent, add a pair of wedges instead of heels, wear a tee-shirt versus a button down, and add a summer bag, something rattan or the a structured, modern acrylic bag.

I am wearing chambray shorts that I got at Target a year ago and they’re back in stock, and only $18. Well worth the price of admission. I’ve paired the shorts with a one-size-fits-all Michael Stars t-shirt. This v-neck  t-shirt is a bit of a splurge for a t-shirt, and a lot of people may think it’s crazy to spend so much, but I have been through enough white t-shirts in my life to know that when you find a white one that is perfectly warn in, holds its shape and stays white, you buy it.  The quality of their t-shirts is much higher than any I have found out there.  However, I have linked a few others that are similar, but less expensive.

My white blazer is from Zara and sold out, but I’ve linked several others that are similar to this one. To keep the look a bit more casual, I prefer a one-button blazer, but any white blazer will do. However, I love a cotton-blend because it holds its structure. If you live in the deep-south, a white linen blazer is the perfect addition for those coming hotter days.  Look for a partially deconstructed, linen and silk blend because it will hold its shape and keep it from wrinkling as much.

I have on nude wedges from ZooShoo. I am a huge fan of nude shoes year-around because they match everything, but secondly, they elongate your legs . These are a little bit taller than I typically wear, but they are so comfortable since they are a stacked wedge, I love the straw details, and they are a complete steal for $34.  They will be on repeat all summer long.

I’ve paired this look with a faux alligator, indigo clutch that comes in multiple colors, and has a detachable gold link chain. This bag looks much pricier than it is. It has a sleek silhouette, that looks super chic, but it’s only $22.  Total steal.  I love it and will likely get it in a few more colors. I love it with this look because it gives that added chic touch needed to finish the look with the blazer.

The earrings are Julie Vos and the perfect lighter weight chandelier year-round.  The belt is from Hermes; it’s reversible from brown to black, and it is an investment piece, but  I’ve linked a similar less expensive style that I love almost as much.  Sunglasses are Tory Burch, polarized aviators. If you’ve never owned polarized sunglasses, I highly recommend these. Can’t live without them if you spend any time on the water.

I’ve linked a few of my other spring blue and white staples below.
