Let me first start by saying, all this nsale (Nordstrom Anniversary Sale) talk is really fantastic. Everyone loves a great sale, right? But, guys, it’s still summer, and I for one am not quite ready to give up jean shorts, sandals, tank tops, and a number of other fun things that makes summer my favorite season, e.g. the beach, sunshine, the warmth, sunset cocktails, and generally happier people, just yet. With that said, I’ve rounded up my top must-haves for the next eight weeks (it’s not over, til it’s over). The best part: a lot of the items are on sale.
Tassels
Tassels: in all shapes and forms. Tops, dresses, earrings and bags (see below under bags). They’re playful, boho and feminine. If you have not added any to your wardrobe this is the perfect time to try out this trend. They are everywhere this season.
Kimonos
Kimonos are the perfect way take your outfit from summer basic to the wow factor. I love them over jean shorts with a simple tank and wedges. Throw it over a jumpsuit, a slip dress, or wear with jeans and t-shirt. It’s a fun trend, so have some fun with it.
Off-the-Shoulder
These tops have made a statement this summer, and with good reason. It’s feminine, shows a little skin, but still leaves something to the imagination, and they are flattering on everyone. It’s hard to narrow it down because I love almost all of them, but here are a few of my favorites.
White Jeans
White jeans are a summer staple, but it can be a challenge to find a flattering pair (major understatement). I’ve rounded up three from my top favorite brands that understand white is tough, but they always manage to make it look good on everyone.
Jean Shorts
Do any of you remember high-waisted jean shorts that were rolled at the bottom, aka mom jean shorts? Well, they are back, but they are not on this round-up. Sorry, guys! But, I have included a few of my favorites below and they are all distressed. Pair them with everything from a lightweight sweater (see below), gingham or striped button down shirt and gladiator sandals, a cami and booties, or a t-shirt, a more structured cardigan or blazer and heels for a night out.
Striped Button Down
Blue & white striped button downs will never go out of style. They are classic, chic and with the right stripe and fabric, scream summer; especially, if you are going north. Pair it with white jeans for night out or jean shorts for day touring. I’ve included two classic styles and one tie-front because it’s super cute and would be fun for a night out.
Oversized Sweaters
Perfect for cooler nights on the beach paired with distressed jean shorts or white jeans. Plus, they are just cozy!
Maxi Dresses
There is not enough space for me to talk about my renewed love for maxi dresses. I had too many long Laura Ashley dresses, circa 1990, and it scarred me from anything long for many years, but those days have come to an end and I love them once again. I love a maxi with a deep v in the front, backless or some interesting back detail to make it a little sassy without revealing too much.
White Dresses
It’s a must-have for summer for almost every occasion out there, minus a wedding. The only one in white should be the bride (unless she does an all-white wedding). Wear it for rooftop cocktails, baby showers, brunch, beach nights, and dinner with friends, date night…the list goes on. They are the perfect summer staple. So many to choose from, but here are a few I love.
Floral Heels
I love a pop of color or pattern in a shoe. It’s slightly unexpected and gives every outfit a fun twist. Wear these with jeans and a striped top or solid shirt. Pair them with a solid pencil skirt and patterned top for work, or a white dress to give the outfit a unique detail.
The Summer Bag
Summer bags are always so playful and chic. It’s more about accenting the outfit than utility. Narrowing it down to three was a challenge, but the first one is a bit of an obsession. Cult Gaia has created one of the coolest bags I have seen in a long time, and the green is just killer. I love a straw bag any day of the week for summer and this tassel clutch is a favorite.
